Her roles have earned her a large fan base and an impressive net worth. Her parents, Doughtry Long and Talita Long, both teachers by profession, divorced when she was young. Likewise, her mother moved with her to Iowa City, Iowa when she was still quite young.

Director of Legal Affairs
The Director of Legal Affairs, in conjunction with NIJC’s Policy and Communications teams, oversees the strategic growth of their legal services programs. This includes developing measurable metrics to gauge impact and success while building connections with community partners, pro bono attorneys, funders and other stakeholders. Leadership and direction for NIJC’s legal services programs is provided, in line with their long-term strategic plan, to ensure they remain a leader in legal aid. This includes developing and implementing new initiatives and assessing existing ones; working alongside NIJC’s Executive Director.
Neta Brookline. COO and budget team on resource allocation to develop, execute and monitor these priorities according to long-term goals and objectives. Maintains client confidentiality, accounts for client funds and avoids conflicts of interest in accordance with organizational policies and the Code of Professional Responsibility. Ensures complete and accurate case records; performs independent and team case audits. Assures timely entry of statistical data into databases and servers; additionally, develops regular reporting tools to assist internal users with program monitoring and evaluation.
Conducts preliminary intake interviews and compiles all pertinent facts for presentation at team meetings or legal supervisors, making assessments of income eligibility when applicable. When necessary, recommends exceptions to financial guidelines and provides appropriate referrals for those not eligible for NIJC services. Consults clients on immigration laws and governmental policies and programs. Interprets these laws and programs for clients, their family members and caretakers at outreach or public speaking events.
Lead projects to provide services for detained immigrants, formerly detained clients, drawing upon skills in advocacy, communication and interpersonal relationships. This position also acts as the primary liaison in order to arrange psychological evaluations of detained clients. Connect them with supportive services like housing, health care and transportation. Makes sure detained and formerly detained clients receive all the information they need to make informed decisions and participate. In their case, including providing Know Your Rights presentations as well as translating documents and materials.
